Connections in Class 2/4/24

It is now the beginning of February and almost the end of my basketball season. School has been starting pick up and course selections have come out for next year. As of right now, I am planning to take 6 classes: AP Language, AP Spanish, AP Biology, Physics Honors, Analysis Honors and US History. This upcoming year looks difficult so hopefully I will be able to manage and balance my priorities.

Recently, I have been learning about Africa in my contemporary world history class and noticed a lot of connections that can be made with an EdX Course I took earlier. A big factor when looking at colonialism in Africa was apartheid- also known as legal segregation. It was because of this law that led to many health problems for workers in coal mines and other work places. They were placed in unsanitary work places which led to many viruses plaguing the community.

I find it interesting how history can be applied to the long lasting line of problems in different communities around the world. This is a big part of global health and it’s idea of helping the wide majority of people. To be able to understand their problems, you have to go back much farther then the surface.
