Technological Advancements 3/28/23

Spring break is coming up so these two weeks have been packed with tests. Recently, I have been busy studying and trying to finish this quarter up on a good note. One thing that happened recently that sparked some confusion was when me and my group in english were accused of using an AI to write our project. I know for certain that none of us had cheated so this got me thinking, how does something prove whether or not someone cheated? Another AI?

In today’s day and age, we are so reliant on technology to make our decisions that we throw away our own judgments to trust something else other than ourselves. According to TechCrunch, “OpenAI estimates that it misses 74% of AI-generated text” (Wiggers 2). This just shows how unreliable these websites are and if these AI’s have less than a 50% success rate, why should we trust them?

Technology is only advancing and if we throw away our own judgment for a non-living item, how are we going to live life ourselves if they are making the choices for us. I was lucky enough for my teacher to give us another attempt at this assignment, but what about the others who weren’t as fortunate? They all had to suffer because of an unreliable algorithm? I am not putting down advancements in technology but at some point, we have to draw the line between making decisions ourselves and using AI.
