What Interests Me 1/16/23

It is the start of a new year and I am ready to finish the last semester of school on the right note. I have been working on finding summer programs and I hope that will help give me a better idea on what major I may want to pursue. I still have basketball almost everyday of the week and by mid February, the season will be over.

One thing that has always interested me is the homeless population in California. From Los Angeles to San Francisco, all over the place you could find people struggling on the streets. Ever since Covid, homelessness has been on the rise with people struggling to find a place to live. The insecurity levels of housing has increased from 22,500 to 173,800 in the past three years.

This raises the question- what is the government doing to help stop this problem? The states has put more than 14 billion into this crisis but this is only the start. To help fight this issue, I will start my first time volunteering at a homeless shelter today. I am excited to do something good for change, and give back to people in need.

No change can happen immediately, but if we can start with small steps, we can move on to bigger things.
