Financial Inequality 12/14/22

Finals are edging closer and closer as I continue to study for them coming up. Basketball has been taking most of my time outside of school with practices 6 times a week including multiple games. Winter break comes in one week so I’m trying to keep my eyes on the prize. Never have I ever been so grateful for a break.

One thing we’ve learned about in social studies that interested me was how the U.S wealth was spread out throughout the different classes. The inequality is shown through how the 1% of people own half of the country’s stocks and bonds. I am fortunate enough to go to a highschool with well funding and all I need to succeed, but what about the other 99%? This is a problem that has been going on for centuries, dating back to the Industrial Revolution.

When you are put in a situation where you can’t succeed, how will the inequality of wealth ever even out? The reason for the 1% owning over half of the U.S stock is because they don’t have to worry about getting food on the table and bills. All the lower class people don’t have the luxury to spend their money on investments and instead pay for their necessities. The country’s government doesn’t help with this all while the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

The kids are the future and if we can just fund them and help build their future, the U.S will be in much better hands.
